Zirconia implants and all-ceramic restorations for the aesthetic replacement of two central incisors.

Abstract: Ceramics have been used in dentistry and medicine for many years. Today, with the latest improvments on the mechanical properties of ceramic materials, new indications are becoming more popular. One of the most popular ceramic is zirconia because its outstanding mechanical properties makes it suitable for many indications up to now reserved to metals. Zirconia based ceramics have been used, for many years as, as core for single crowns as well as very long bridges. Also zirconia based ceramics has been used as implants for hip replacements as well as finger, toe and wrist joints. Recently some articles are appearing in the dental literature referring the possible use of zirconia implants for tooth replacement. The present article is a case report that reflects the outstanding good results that can be achieved with zirconia implants (CeraRoot®) in a high aesthetic demanding case. Download pdf.
